Acts of resistance like days without a population of marginalized people is a way to bring attention to the countless ways and reasons why we need to be better neighbors (show appreciation and respect and honor daily)! No, a day without women may not completely shift the entire narrative that suggests women are not valuable and worthy of respect. A day without women may not end rape culture! A day without women may not end state sanctioned (in prison) sterilization! A day without women may not end poverty or the mass incarceration of women! But awareness is a huge part of resistance and rebellion! I see you!
We need to do better family. God created all of us in HIS image. We are each priceless and valuable and worthy of love and respect! Women are one of GOD's greatest ideas! The sooner we celebrate this truth the sooner oppression will end for women around the world!
Today, I want to highlight the number of women that will not, choose not or could not walk away from their work today. I want to say that your act of resistance everyday is vibrant and I appreciate the way you are showing up.
I see your resistance every time you show up for visitor's hours to visit your sister, husband, or parents in prison. I see your rebellion when you choose to love your enemy! I see your rebellion when you decide to forgive! Every time you pray first & think last! I see you! Every time you decided to trust the Lord and did not lean on your own understanding! I see you girl! I see your rebellion every time you choose to eat clean when you wanted the burger and fries! Girl I see you!
Let's take the time to honor the ways women are showing up today too.
If SHE didn't show up today to flip burgers HER family would not eat tomorrow!
If SHE didn't show up today HER family might be evicted next week!
If SHE didn't show up today your loved one might have gotten a tougher sentence!
If SHE didn't show up today your sister wouldn't be treated with compassion in the prison infirmary!
If SHE didn't show up someone's children would not be able to eat a FREE breakfast or lunch at school today!
If SHE didn't show up someone's children would experience abuse the entire day!
If SHE didn't show up survivors of domestic violence would not get therapy!
Thank you for those women who are showing up today.
Thank you for those women who decided to stay home!
All of the ways you show up in your resistance is valuable and I see you!
